15 Computer Shortcuts Everyone Should Know

Make your life easier with computer shortcuts. The ones I’m about to show you are Windows specific, but most also work for Macs if you substitute  CTRL for Command. All the web browser shortcuts are Chrome specific, though most should work for Firefox. I also avoided the more obvious shortcuts like CTRL+C and CTRL+S.
  1. Hit the space bar to scroll down. While browsing the web, instead of using the scroll wheel or down arrow, hit the space bar to move down the page. Then press Shift+[Space Bar] to scroll back up.
  2. CTRL+Shift+T opens the last closed tab in Chrome/Firefox. Did you just make a huge mistake by closing that tab? Bring it back to life with CTRL+Shift+T.
  3. CTRL+Shift+N opens Incognito mode in Chrome. Incognito mode allows you to browse the web without any cache or URL history being recorded by your browser.
  4. CTRL++ increases font size. Is something too small to read in your browser? CTRL++ increases everything. Alternatively, CTRL- decreases the size.
  5. CTRL+0 returns the font size back to the original size. Just in case you altered the size too much and don’t know what the original looks like, hit CTRL+0 to return everything to normal.
  6. CTRL+F searches your webpage for a word. Instead of scanning all over a webpage or document for a word or phrase, just hit CTRL+F to find it immediately.
  7. Press F2 to rename a selected file. An easy way to rename files without double-clicking or visiting properties.
  8. CTRL+Backspace deletes the entire word. No more double clicking. CTRL+Shift+arrow highlights entire words.
  9. CTRL+Shift+ESC opens the task manager directly. Or right-click the taskbar to select it from a list. No more CTRL+Alt+Delete.
  10. [Windows Key]+L to lock your computer. Quickly and effortlessly lock your computer without using your mouse.
  11. CTRL+L highlights the address bar in a browser. Instead of clicking in the URL field press CTRL+L to jump straight there.
  12. CTRL+K searches the web in Chrome/Firefox. Search Google straight from your browser address bar without ever using your mouse.
  13. Alt+Tab shifts between open programs. Seamlessly switch from program to program without clicking anything.
  14. CTRL+Tab moves between browser tabs. Alternatively, CTRL+Shift+Tab allows you to move backwards through tabs.
  15. Shift+Delete deletes previous entries in a form field. Every time your friends log into their Facebook on your computer, your browser saves their email in the form field. Delete those entries and those from any other form field by highlighting the entry and pressing Shift+Delete.
